Frequently Asked Questions

Do you only deal with sports injuries and athletes?

Not at all! We welcome clients of all backgrounds, ages, abilities and injuries (non-injured too in fact!). Whether you are injured in sport, injured at work, have had an accident, just have a niggle or have a full bill of health, you can still benefit from a visit to Phoenix Sports Injury Clinic. Our services can treat a variety of symptoms and despite specialising in sports injury, we find that many injury types share common treatments. Additionally, we can help you maintain good health, improve your lifestyle, develop performance or simply elevate your mental wellbeing through the use of exercise and therapy!

What kind of conditions and injuries do you treat?

We specialise in neuromusculoskeletal injuries, meaning that most of our expertise lies in conditions involving chronic pain or damaged nerve, muscle, bone and connective tissues. However we can also help you manage pain stemming from non-traumatic conditions, such as muscular imbalances. Some of the most common injuries that we treat include:

  • Plantar Fasciitis

  • Repetitive Strain & Overuse Injuries

  • Shin Splints

  • Back Pain

  • Tendinopathy

  • Ligament Strains

  • (Post) Reconstructive Surgery

  • 'Sciatica' & Radiculopathy

  • Shoulder Pain (Impingement, Frozen Shoulder, Rotator Cuff Injury, Upper Cross Syndrome etc.)

  • Blunt Trauma i.e. sports impact

As well as treating conditions within our scope of practice, we may also be able to help you to understand a pre-diagnosed condition or help you to receive the most appropriate referral through our consultation service.

Do I need a gym membership to do exercise rehab with you?

No, you don't need a gym membership at all. We always strive to make rehabilitation and fitness programmes accessible, with every plan being tailor made for you. This means we will work our exercise selection around the equipment you have (or don't have) at your own gym or at home. Any gym-based sessions undertaken as part of a session with us in the UoC Active gym, are covered in your appointment fee already. If you would like to continue your unsupervised rehab in the same gym for continuity, you can do. The sports centre offer a range of memberships, as well as Pay As You Go Options, from as little as £3.50.

What do I need to wear for an appointment/what to bring?

Depending on the type of session you have scheduled during your appointment, you will need to wear appropriate clothing. For consultations and injury assessments, we advise wearing loose fitting/comfortable clothing, or clothing which can easily expose the injured area for physical examination e.g. wear above knee shorts for a leg injury. Don't worry if you can't come wearing the right clothing, just bring it with you. We have full shower, toilet and changing room facilities on site.

For rehab sessions, just come in/bring your gym attire and for manual therapy sessions, just wear clothing which can be easily removed on the area in which you require work. Please don't wear items such as sports bras for sports massage on the back. Whilst they sound like a good idea, they are much more awkward to work around than regular ones.
